Cost saving

A 40HC loading in Edinburgh to go to Felixstowe with the empty container to be collected in Felixstowe can cost anywhere between £1800 to £2200. Railing the empty container to Coatbridge, loading in Edinburgh and returning to Coatbridge to catch the train back to Felixstowe can make a saving of up to 23%.

Emissions

We’re here to help you decrease emissions whilst increasing supply chain efficiency. Through strategic network planning and cost-efficient routing, we work to drive down your costs and your environmental footprint.

A quick example: 1x40HC Edinburgh to Felixstowe weighing 18500kg.

By road 1500kg CO₂e
By rail 570kg CO₂e

Key Detail to Consider

Having the correct weight of your shipment is important because the weight affects both the rail and road leg of the journey. Rail operators need the correct gross weight of the container as this contributes to the overall axel loads and train weight. It also affects whether the container can be accepted on the train. 1000kg difference in weight might make the trains combined weight too heavy to travel. Your load may also be too heavy for UK roads, which may result in rejection at the port of loading. A detailed packing list with the weight of the individual goods, packaging materials and pallets will form the basis of the combined weight of your container.
